Contributing to solving societal challenges
We see that our raw materials and products can contribute to solving several societal challenges. The UN Sustainable Development Goals provide a canvas on which such solutions can be created. Responsible consumption and production are at our core; good health and well-being is what we strive for.
Innovations that contribute to solving health challenges
Our innovations in high-quality poultry protein and egg products target societal challenges related to health – in particular inadequate nutrition and inefficient treatments for sores. Several of our on-going research and innovation projects aim for products that will benefit health, focusing on people interested in sports nutrition, and the elderly, but also on pets. Our raw materials provide an excellent base for developing products that provide the little bit extra that these consumers need.
Our commitment to sustainability
Norilia's business model is based on sustainability through its contribution to the bioeconomy and creating circularity in the Norwegian meat industry. Many of our innovation projects aim to contribute to sustainability. Foods of Norway, a center for research-based innovation led by the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), aims to create more feed sources based on Norwegian raw materials, rather than relying on the import of soy. Norilia contributes various raw materials on which protein-rich yeast are grown, a potential feed source for the future.
New sustainable materials
In all our innovation projects related to materials, we look at the possibility of creating more sustainable materials. The Regenwool project, a collaboration between Helly Hansen, Norilia and Sintef, focuses on developing a new material from keratin that is found in wool. In this way, low-value wool can potentially be processed into new sustainable materials that provide an added value to customers. This type of project helps to create new uses for our raw materials, and has benefits both environmentally, economically and socially.
Harnessing the potential of our raw materials
We create our solutions based on the specific properties of our raw materials. We are always looking for new and creative ways to increase the value of our products for customers. The Byprovalue project, in collaboration with the Norwegian University for Life Sciences, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, and Brno University of Technology, aims to increase the value of fat. It uses fungi to convert saturated fatty acids to polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are better for health, and provide better application possibilities for fat.
We are open to collaborating with partners with innovative ideas or processes, to create even more value for our customers.
